Content Roadmap

Less than two weeks are left of Digital Content Strategies and the weekslong client content audit/report is complete. The lectures in these last two weeks (Module 5 and 6) have covered defining a content gap as well as introducing tactics and strategies for improving content operations.

What did you read or watch that surprised, delighted or disappointed you? Why?

Between M5 and M6, the material I engaged with that was the most thought-provoking was the video about Chat GPT. I have loosely followed news about Chat GPT and have kept up with what those around me have used it for. It’s no secret that this AI tool has been a very hot topic in the Tech Comm industry (and likely in many written content creation industries) for a while now. In every situation I have used Chat GPT, it has been as a research tool. I find that it is very good at gathering information and displaying it in easy-to-digest chunks. It is neat, and I can see how something this powerful, even if it does have flaws and requires improvement, could make some big waves. Only time will tell how this will change written content creation industries.

I did also enjoy hearing (from the lecture) and reading (from associated reading materials) about the maturity models in content operations and the different tactics that can be used to address shortcomings in content ops. My perception is that communication between different parties remains a common problem with content management. Besides that, I am already thinking about how this information can be applied to the content roadmap I will be designing for this class’s client.

What was most meaningful for your own career goals? Why?

Though every module in Digital Content Strategies has taught me something, the information in M6 feels very substantial. I feel like I have made more of a connection between problems and solutions (or tactics).  This information makes sense at this time in the course, where we have assessed content, reported observations, and now must individually develop a plan for the client. Both from the associated reading material and in thinking about it, I can see how these best practices can increase efficiency and would be valuable to any business.
